Viyella tips: getting the most from your shirts
After 200 years of creating fabrics and garments, we’ve learnt a thing or two. Follow the care instructions on your Viyella clothing and you’ll get the best out of them.
Our clothes are designed to be worn day in, day out. It’s really quite easy to care for your shirts by following the guidelines we provide and a few tricks when it comes to proper ironing, washing and storing:
· Wash your shirt before you wear it for the first time to get out any chemicals and soften the shirt.
· It’s best to separate the colours of your shirts before you wash to avoid colours running and keeping your white-based shirts looking bright.
· Iron your shirt whilst it’s still slightly damp for easy crease removal.
· Never iron a men's shirts if you notice a stain – the heat will trap the stain making your chances of removal less likely.
· Don’t use starch when you iron – it harms the fabric in the long run.
· Iron the collar and cuffs ‘inside out’ to prevent burn marks or damage to these areas, first.
· You should iron the ‘yoke’ of the shirt next – the piece of fabric between the collar and the large back panel. If there’s pleats in this section, iron them flat, from the top of the shirt, down.
·Next iron the comes the sleeves, which you should always iron the from the cuffs up to the shoulders, ensuring the surface is as flat as possible to create a nice crease.
· Iron the torso of your shirt last, starting from the shoulders downward, not forgetting to iron between the buttons.
· Don’t use wire hangers. A thicker hanger made of other materials, such as plastic or wood will keep the shape of your shirt.
We like our shirts to look good on people, and we want you to get value for your money! Making that little bit of extra effort will keep your shirts in top shape and prevent damaging the fabric.
Loake: Proper shoe care advice
If you buy a pair of Loake shoes, you obviously care about your foot comfort and style. Loake shoes aren’t high maintenance to care for, they’re far from it. But there are a few steps you can take that will get you a few extra miles out of leather shoes. To get the longest possible life from your Loake footwear, here are some tips:
· Shoe Polish doesn’t just keep your shoes looking shiny, it also nourishes the leather and repairs daily wear and tear. Always match the colour of your polish as close as you can to the colour of the shoe – and don’t hold back on using some elbow grease!
· Water exposure shrinks and deforms the shape of your shoes. Regularly waterproofing your shoes with a water repellent spray will seal the leather and help maintain the shape and size.
· In between wear, reduce the creasing and shrinking of shoes by using shoetrees. They’ll keep the shape of your shoe when you’re not wearing them.
· It’s normal for the sole of your shoes to wear down. Resoling them when needed will prolong your shoes life span and make them more comfortable to walk in.
Taking that extra care with your shoes will make your shoes last that extra mile. Look after your Loake shoes and they’ll look after your feet!
